Vaux Big Picture High School incorporates programs for students that allow them to gain 21st Century workforce readiness skills through first-hand experience. Our proven approach begins with Real World Learning and continues with Learning Through Internships.
Students participate in Real World Learning in 9th grade. Real World Learning lays a foundation for Vaux students to discover their passions and career interests. The program includes service-learning experiences, interfacing with local professionals, and a personal portfolio that includes a resume, cover letter, elevator pitch, references, and interest inventory to demonstrate work preparedness.
For students in 10th-12th grade, Learning Through Internships teaches workforce readiness in real-life work settings. Students attend an internship one to two days per week, develop projects with their advisor and mentor, and prepare a presentation at the end of the semester. Recent internships have included the Office of Councilman Allan Domb, the Philadelphia Zoo, Coded By Kids, and the Discovery Center!
Big Picture Philadelphia is always seeking partner organizations and businesses to serve as volunteer mentors and host-sites for student internships. If you or your business is interested in joining us, learn more or contact us.

Internship project work is the lifeblood of what we do! During his time as an intern at Freshfly in 2019-20, 11th grader Izayah Gooden served as a production assistant on this short film.
