By becoming a mentor for our Learning through Internships program you have the opportunity to cultivate a relationship with a student who is interested in learning about your industry. Ensure that students reach Real World Learning goals by collaborating with a Vaux BPHS student and their advisor.
Your role as a mentor
A willingness to provide weekly mentorship to a student during a semester-long internship.
The ability to host a student intern at your place of business.
Co-develop real-world learning project.
Participation in the closing exhibition.
PARTICIPATE IN THE REAL WORLD LEARNING FAIR
Share your passion for your career/industry you can provide an opportunity for our students to learn about potential careers in various industry sectors, become familiar with networking career fairs and gain exposure to local opportunities for their future career interest.
Your role as an RWL fair participant
Available to participate in internship fair held annually in the fall.
Provide brief organization information to students (Pamphlets, business cards).
Share business/organization elevator pitch to multiple groups of students.
FACILITATE A REAL WORLD LEARNING WORKSHOP
Share your road to success and industry expertise during a 60-minute school-based industry workshop. The workshops are designed for students in grades 10-11 to gain exposure to industry-based opportunities and real-world engagement on campus.
Your role as a workshop presenter
Lead a 60-minute classroom-based industry presentation.
Introduce students to various industry pathways.
Actively engage students in discussions around career opportunities.
Share your passion for the work that you do.
HOST AN ORGANIZATIONAL SITE VISIT
Welcome a group of students for a tour and talk at your organization's worksite. These off-campus industry visits focus on exposing students to local businesses and organizations and open their eyes to future career opportunities.
Your role as an organization host
Host Vaux BPHS students at your organization site.
Provide information sessions specific to your industry and organization and your role.
Demonstrate your business/ organization day to day activities during student group visits.
Offer facility tour and general information session.
