School Culture

At Vaux Big Picture High School, our students are the heart of our work. Our model employs small class sizes of no more than 18 students, with each having their own individualized education plan. Students maintain the same advisory (classroom) and advisor (teacher) throughout their enrollment, and we practice restorative justice in order to build a positive community in and out of the classroom. Each day begins with Circle Up, a process that ensures students' voices are heard, their opinions valued, and their ideas supported.

Big Picture Philadelphia operates differently than your typical high school. We value project-based learning and de-emphasize tests. This means that throughout the school year, students participate in projects meant to thoroughly engage them in their academics, and present their work to their peers and the community at the end of each semester. By practicing mock interviews and gaining first-hand real-world experience, each day presents something new and exciting for students that challenges them to be their best.

For the 2019-2020 school year, Vaux Big Picture High School will enroll 9th through 11th grade. A new class of freshman will be added during the 2020-2021 school year. We offer several in-school programs, sports, and extracurricular activities for students, which you can learn more about here

Finally, we know that hard work pays off, but we also know how to have fun. Check out some of our favorite highlights from the past year!
