School Policy Reminders

*No exceptions will be made for these policies, procedures, expectations, and guidelines.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
If you absolutely have to be out, be sure to have your parent or guardian call 267-507-9690 or email [email protected] in the main office before 9:30 am to inform the school of your absence. On the day following your absence, please bring a note from your parent or guardian explaining why you were out [give it to your Advisor]. The SRC considers the following conditions to constitute reasonable cause for absence from school:
1. Illness
2. Quarantine
3. Recovery from accident
4. Required court attendance
5. Death in family
6. Educational tours and trips, with prior approval.
7. Authorized school activities

In the event that a note is not provided, the absence will be marked as “UNEXCUSED.” All legitimate absences will be “EXCUSED” for attendance records.

Chronic absences will be automatically reported as truant. Additionally, if you are absent three or more times in a learning cycle, you will be in danger of losing privileges including school dances, field trips, awards, etc.

Finally, be sure to make arrangements to complete the work you missed.

Late to School
School begins at 7:45am. Students who arrive at school after 7:45am are considered late. Students are excused if they have an appropriate note from a parent/guardian or medical provider. Students are unexcused without an appropriate note.

Students who arrive after 10am will receive a call home and will not be permitted to enter without a valid note from a parent or guardian.

CELL PHONE POLICY

9th GRADE CELL PHONE POLICY
Phones/Smart watches will be turned in at the door at admissions. Every 9th grade student will turn their phone in before walking through the scanner. The phones will be placed in a pouch with the students’ names on them and locked away. 9th grade students will get their phones during dismissal. If a 9th grade student has an early dismissal, they will be able to collect it when they are dismissed.

VIOLATIONS
If a student is caught with a phone on their person, the phone will be confiscated for Parent Pickup and Mandatory Parent Conference. Continued phone violations will result in further disciplinary actions as per the student code of conduct.

10th-12th GRADE CELL PHONE POLICY
Phones are not to be used during school. Every student is assigned a personal Yondr Pouch. While the Yondr Pouch is considered school property, it is each student’s responsibility to bring their Pouch with them to school every day and keep it in good working condition.

VIOLATIONS
Pouch Damage / Lost Pouch / Using Phone During School
If a student damages their Pouch or is caught on their phone, Administration will collect the phone/Pouch and call home for a Parent Pickup & Mandatory Parent Conference. YONDR privilege will be revoked, and the student will have the phone locked up daily. Continued cell phone violations will result in additional disciplinary action per the student code of conduct.

COVID-19 POLICY
If a student is experiencing COVID-19 or new symptoms, PLEASE do not come to school and get tested at one of the testing facilities. See below:

Symptomatic Testing
In partnership with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH), we are providing the opportunity for all staff--including those working remotely--to be tested for COVID-19 across the city if they become symptomatic. Mobile units are set up in the parking lot at each of the following locations and are open Monday-Friday 9 AM to 6PM:
  • Martin Luther King High School, 6100 Stenton Avenue Philadelphia , Pennsylvania 19138
  • South Philadelphia High School, 2101 S Broad St, Philadelphia, PA 19148 (in the parking lot at the corner of Jackson and S Broad)
  • Samuel Fels High School, 5500 Langdon Street, Philadelphia PA 19124
  • Overbrook High School, 5898 Lancaster Ave, Philadelphia PA 19130
  • Thomas Edison High School, 151 West Luzerne Street, Philadelphia PA 19140
Students and staff can register for testing at these locations in two different ways:
*In the registration process you will be able to select the time and date for testing. If someone is unable to sign up for an appointment, these sites do accept walk-ins though priority is given to those who have pre-registered.

*This service is provided for convenience but is solely optional. All District staff and students, including those who are participating in 100% virtual learning, can be tested here at no cost.
